Italy Beats Albania in Euro 2024 Opener
Modric's Late Goal Secures Croatia Draw
Italy began the defense of their European Championship crown with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Albania in their opening match of Euro 2024. The Azzurri controlled much of the game but found it difficult to break down a stubborn Albanian defense. However, substitute Federico Chiesa finally made the breakthrough in the 85th minute, firing home from close range to give Italy all three points.
In other Group A action, Luka Modric's late goal rescued a point for Croatia against Spain. The 38-year-old Real Madrid midfielder thought he had won it for his side in the 90th minute, but Spain equalized through Alvaro Morata in the 93rd minute.
The draw leaves both teams with a point after one game. Italy will face Croatia in their next match on June 17, while Spain will take on Albania.
