Ángel Di María Retires from Argentina National Team

Former Argentina winger, Ángel Di María, announced his retirement from international football.

“Now I am just another fan,” said the 34-year-old, who won the World Cup with Argentina in 2022.

Di María made his debut for Argentina in 2008 and went on to make 129 appearances, scoring 28 goals. He was part of the team that won the Copa América in 2021 and the Finalissima in 2022.

However, Di María struggled with injuries in recent years and was not included in Argentina’s squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He announced his retirement in an emotional statement on social media.

“It’s been a long journey,” Di María wrote. “I always dreamed of playing for the national team and wearing the Argentina jersey. I tried to give my all, to always play with passion and intensity, and to always defend my country with pride.”

“I want to thank my family, my friends, my teammates, and all the people who have supported me throughout my career. And especially to the fans, who have always been there for me, even in the most difficult moments.”

Di María’s retirement is a major blow to Argentina. He was one of the team’s most experienced and influential players, and his absence will be felt in the upcoming Copa América in 2024.

However, Di María is confident that Argentina has a bright future. “We have a great team, with a lot of young players who are hungry for success,” he said. “I will be cheering them on from the sidelines, and I will always be proud to be an Argentine.”
